The East Coast of Tasmania plays host to some of the world's most breathtaking scenery. Here are just a few images to give you the idea.
The delightful resort and fishing township of Coles Bay, at the northern edge of the Freycinet National Park, is dominated by jagged pink granite peaks, with dramatic cliffs dropping sheer into the sea. The white beaches, crystal clear water, boating, fishing, swimming and bushwalking attract visitors to the area in their thousands, particularly at the height of summer.
The historic township of Swansea is ideal for fishing, swimming and diving, or relaxing on the beach overlooking Great Oyster Bay and the beautiful Freycinet National Park. Swansea has a population of 530, housed in colonial buildings, contemporary homes and classic beachside shacks.
Maria Island National Park has a mix of history, wildlife and coastal landscape barely touched by modern times.
The Freycinet National Park (17,000 ha) is accessed through the resort township of Coles Bay. It is immediately recognisable by the silhouette of the Hazards, a rare formation of weathered pink granite mountains, dominated by Mt Amos, Mt Dove and Mt Mayson.
