Awards & Congratulations

The Ugly Duck Out has had a couple of successes this year.

  • "Best Environmental Practices" in the Tasmanian Hospitality Association Awards of Excellence. We should hear in the next week how we performed in the national AHA awards.
  • "Small Business Sustainability" in the Tasmanian Awards of Environmental Excellence. The Ugly Duck Out is nominated in the national Banksia awards to be announced later this year.

Bicheno's Blue Edge Bakery won the following at the Royal Hobart Fine food Awards:

  • Gold medals for their Continental Vienna Loaf, Egg and Bacon Pie and Vegetarian Pastie.
  • Silver medals for their Pain de Levain, Chicken and Camembert Pie and Sausage Rolls.
  • Bronze medals for their White Rolls, White Loaf, Wholemeal Rolls, Multigrain Loaf, Fruit Buns, Gluten Free Loaf, Blueberry Muffins, Croissants and Minced Steak Pie.

The Blue Edge Bakery also participated in the Baking Industry Association of Tasmania's (BIAT) Awards in a huge statewide entry field. Ian and his team took hom the following awards:

  • Best Loaf in Show Award (White sandwich loaf)
  • Champion Gourmet Bread (Pain au Levain)
  • Champion Wholemeal Loaf
  • Apprentice award (crossiants)
  • 2nd place for Wedding Cupcake
  • 2nd place Fruit cake, as well as others, trophies are on display at the bakery.

Sir Loin Breier's Bicheno Butchery won the following at the Royal Hobart Fine food Awards:

  • Gold Medals for their Chicken and Leek Pie and Crayfish Pâté.
  • Silver medals for their Spanish Chorizo and their Bacon.
